    What does it actually cost to redo a backyard?
    The honest answer is that it depends far more on the base work than the stone on top: how much grading, drainage and prep the ground needs is what moves the number. A small sitting area and a full outdoor living space are very different projects.     Paver patio or a wooden deck? I cannot decide which to build.
    A deck suits a sloped yard or a walkout that sits well above grade.     Do I need a retaining wall, or can I just regrade the slope?
